Yes, an account is needed for every rental customer. This allows us to more accurately track our rentals and also gives us the ability to better serve your needs for any future rentals. If you made an account with us in prior years, you will need to create a new parent/guardian account and student profile since we are using a new Instrument Rental system.

You can absolutely book your rental online. Our Instrument Rental website allows you to quickly and easily reserve your instrument, purchase supplies and complete upfront payment. There is no need to call our office unless you have questions or need additional information. Visit the Instrument Rental website for more information.

Walk-ins will be held at the Instrument Rental office from Wednesday, September 9 to Friday, September 11 from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm.

We have partnered with a local music store, Bertrand's Music, which will be on-site during walk-ins with inventory to assist families who are unable to rent an instrument through IPSF. As an added benefit, Bertrand’s Music will donate a portion of every rental made through this link to IPSF. Your rental helps support programs that enrich learning and strengthen music education for students across Irvine.

Monthly Option: When you pick up the instrument, you will be charged a non-refundable deposit equal to three months of rental fees. If you select monthly payments, your designated credit card or bank account will be automatically charged beginning three months after the rental date and will continue as long as you have the instrument, even if your child is not using it.

Full School Year (9 Month or 10 Month) Option: Conveniently pay for the entire school year upfront. After the initial term is over, you will be charged the monthly rental amount for your instrument each month for as long as you have the instrument, even if your child is not using it.

If your student needs the next size string instrument or your student has decided that they would like to change to a flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or baritone: Come to the IPSF Instrument Rental Office to exchange or get a bigger size. No appointment needed for size ups or exchanges.

Dedicated Size ups and Exchanges week from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Strings: All students must be sized by their music teacher in class. Come to the IPSF Instrument Rental Office after your student is sized. There will be no sizing in the IPSF office.

Your ability to exchange to a different instrument is subject to our availability at the time. Please reach out to Instrument Rental ahead of time for details on availability.

Inventory is only visible during the official Instrument Rental reservation window, open from Tuesday, September 1 at 9:00 a.m. until Thursday, September 3 at 11:59 p.m. A reservation is required for all new rentals. 

Our inventory is updated at the start of the rental window for the events we hold for Year-Round and Traditional calendar schools. Once our website is updated, you will be able to view available instruments to rent and reserve a pickup time during either the Year-Round or Traditional rental event pickup days. You may also add required books and optional accessories to your cart during this time. For families with multiple students, you will be able to set up students on your accounts and will be able to reserve instruments for each student.

After checking in, you will pick up pre-purchased supplies, receive your instrument, and visit with a music teacher for any questions or to attach shoulder rests for string instruments. Additional supplies will be available for purchase.

Please confirm your appointment date and time before arriving by reviewing your email confirmation or by visiting your account dashboard. Appointments are carefully scheduled so every family can be served on time - arriving early or late may result in a wait.

The Instrument Assurance Program is an optional add-on for all rentals. For a monthly fee of $5.00, IPSF will repair damaged instruments or replace lost or stolen instruments (up to 80% of their value), contingent on the monthly instrument rental payments being paid on time and in full. Families remain responsible for intentional or reckless damage to the instrument. Additional terms and conditions apply.

All repairs must be done by Irvine Public Schools Foundation. If your instrument is in need of service or repair, please contact us or visit the office during our current open hours. Please note that you are responsible for any damage or repairs needed to the instrument while it is in your possession.

Whenever you are ready to return your instrument, please bring the instrument back to the IPSF Instrument Rental Office located on the campus of Rancho San Joaquin Middle School at 4861 Michelson Dr. in the portables by the tennis courts. We will then help process the return and will stop the next upcoming payment.
